KATHRYN
MONTEIRO
Kathryn Joy Monteiro is a Fellow at both Guildhall school of music and Drama and Royal Academy of Music. She is a cellist with particular interest in chamber music, orchestra and musical theatre.
Kathryn started playing cello aged 6 in Derby with Katherine Jenkinson, one of the UK’s leading cellists. Over the years, Kath’s teaching was interspersed with tutoring by Len Jenkinson, Tim Smedley and Nick Holland. As an undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music, Kathryn studied with the sought-after tutor, Felix Schmidt. She then continued her studies as a postgraduate scholar and Help Musicians UK Postgraduate award winner (2022) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with renowned teacher Tim Lowe who continues to inspire and guide her.

Highlights of Kathryn’s career so far include a performance with the late artist Hannah Marcinowics, in her ‘Screen & Sax II Concert’ at the King’s Place with a debut folk piece arranged by Goldstein called Women of Ireland. Another favourite is the family style teddy concerts with the King’s Chamber Orchestra (KCO), whose aim is to inspire children. Kathryn has extensive experience playing in theatre; some of her favourite productions are Phantom of the Opera, American Idiot and Oliver.
More recently she has played in a new musical, Is he Musical with MP Theatricals, performing in both the Curve theatre in Leicester and the Other Palace in London. Alongside classical, Kathryn has a passion for worship and improvisational music. Her time with KCO led her to play at events such as ‘The Big Church Day Out’, and ‘The Alpha Leadership Conference” at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2019, Kathryn joined the new and upcoming neo-classical band, To Life, who released an album in March 2021. She is also part of the Orelia Piano Trio who have a communal passion for elevating the platform for female composers, they were finalists in the Ivon Sutton competition and have recently been invited to represent Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the Musical Chairs Festival in Montreal, Canada.
